Acupuncture

There are different types of acupuncture used in the UK today, however, at Central Chiropractic Clinic we mainly use the western style of acupuncture and K-Laser acupuncture that addresses a wide range of musculoskeletal conditions that have associated muscle spasm and tension i.e. tension headaches, back pain etc.

This style of acupuncture is primarily aimed at reducing muscle spasms and Trigger Points (tight knots within the muscle) and increasing blood flow to the area.

Acupuncture can be used to relieve pain for a wide range of conditions. There may also be other beneficial effects such as more energy, improved sleep patterns or a greater feeling of wellbeing. Treatment involves the insertion of very fine needles into tight spots within the muscle. Often patients hardly feel the needle being inserted, but when the needle makes contact with a trigger point there will often be an ache within that muscle and sometimes there may be a momentary twitch of the involved muscle. This twitch or ache is a good sign that the needle is targeting the area that it is supposed to.

Sometimes a more traditional style of acupuncture may be used in which case traditional acupuncture points may be used instead of the tight musculature. The same type of needle is used, but in this case, once inserted the needle will often be rotated to achieve a greater effect.

Treatments & combined therapies

The amount of treatment will vary depending on the condition being treated and how long-standing the problem is. You may be seen on a weekly or twice-weekly basis. For long-standing conditions more treatment will be required to address the condition.

With the exception of Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy and IDD Spine Therapy, most of our treatments are charged at a standard rate. This means you pay a standard treatment fee per visit, but the treatment you receive may vary depending on what you need as your condition progresses.

As an example, if you are having difficulty walking due to lower back/leg pain, then you may receive a combined therapeutic approach involving acupuncture and Low-Level Laser and K- Laser Therapy (LLLT). In this particular scenario, you may need longer visits in the initial stages and treatments may shorten as your condition improves.
