Cellulite Treatments in Coventry
At Central Chiropractic Clinic, we offer a range of treatments for persistent conditions such as cellulite.
What is cellulite?
Cellulite is the lumpy substance on the thighs and buttocks and is fat behind the skin. The fat appears bumpy because it pushes against the connective tissue beneath the skin, causing the skin above it to pucker. Although cellulite is not harmful, many people are willing to go to great lengths to get rid of it. A lot of women tend to get cellulite as well as some girls and men.
Although cellulite is fat, it doesn’t mean that you’re overweight. You can have cellulite, no matter what size you are. Being a woman and genes play an important role in developing it.
Other factors include:
- Fad dieting
- Poor diet
- Lack of physical activity
- Slow metabolism
- Total body fat
- Hormone changes
- The thickness and colour of you skin
Cellulite treatments – do they work or are they a waste of money?
There are many products available that claim to reduce cellulite. Most only have a very slight, short-term effect, and the majority only work in combination with several other approaches. There are three main approaches to dealing with cellulite: the topical approach (applying creams and massages), injecting substances into the skin, and the surgical approach.
The majority of creams that claim to eliminate cellulite have a limited short-term effect. Creams that contain anti-inflammatory drugs and antioxidants can help stimulate blood flow, and other creams may help hydrate the area as long as they are applied, but the cellulite will not disappear completely. Creams cannot penetrate down to the dermis of the skin where cellulite damage originates, so they aren’t able to affect the cellulite itself.
Cellulite treatments; Injections and massage
Dermal fillers – these are injected into the skin and are used to make the skin appear fuller, firmer and rejuvenated. Dermal fillers can temporarily mask cellulite, giving the appearance of smoother skin, although it will not have gone completely. Mesotherapy – this is a solution of vitamins, amino acids, minerals and medicines that are injected directly under the skin in order to (MAY) reduce the appearance of cellulite dimpling. Manual massage – stimulating blood vessels through external rubbing can increase the circulation of nutrients in that area, although it cannot remove or decrease cellulite. Endermology – this is a massage administered by a hand-held machine helping to eliminate toxins and re-condition the skin. View the Acoustic wave therapy comparison Endermologie video below.
Cellulite treatments; Surgical
Unfortunately to date there is no known surgical technique that can get rid of cellulite. Liposuction – although many people think that liposuction will help remove cellulite, it actually just removes excess fat, leaving the cellulite behind. Liposuction removes deposits of fat resistance to exercise and diet, but does not affect the dermal layer of the skin where it is caused. Lower body lift – although a body lift can give you a firmer, youthful look, it cannot remove cellulite from the body, and the scars this invasive surgery leaves behind can be extensive. The best way is through strengthening the blood vessels in the affected area to increase blood flow, helping your body to build connective tissue and stimulate the production of collagen and elastin.
Tips for reducing the appearance of cellulite
For cellulite treatments it is recommended that you should first reduce the amount of fat on your body and begin a regular exercise routine. Shock Wave Therapy (SWT) is a non-surgical procedure that is both non-invasive and painless, and has a 98% success rate at reducing the appearance of cellulite in problematic areas such as the bottom, thighs, arms and tummy. More commonly used to ease joint pain, the procedure involves rapid vibrations and pulsations to the surface of the skin that help to break down the fats and toxins that make up cellulite. Cellulite treatments with Doctor Maria Kibkalo DC. MSc take 45 minutes and a course of 6 sessions is required.
