Whiplash Injury Warwickshire. Phase 1. Central Chiropractic Clinic.

 Whiplash injury Warwickshire.

Whiplash injury.

During the phase 1 the car driver and passengers are involved in a sudden impact with another car and are suddenly propelled forward while the seats begin to slide from underneath the car driver and passengers. This pushes the middles of their backs into the back of the car seats thus resulting in a severe upward thrust to there cervical spine. This upward thrust results in compression of the discs and joints in the necks. As the back of the seats starts to push the bodies forward, there heads are pushed backwards, causing severe trauma to their neck.  Properly adjusted head restraints will limit the distance the head travels backward as any damage to the spine will take place before the head reaches the head rest.

Phase 2

In phase 2, their bodies have reached an acceleration of one to two times that of the car, while their heads have not yet started to accelerate forward and continues to move backward. This produces abnormal S-curve in the cervical spine as the seat backs recoil forward acting as a spring board and thrusting the bodies forward. This forward seat back spring action happens while their heads are still moving backwards resulting in a severe and major jolt to the neck, resulting in the most damaging aspects of a whiplash injury to both the driver and passengers.

Whiplash Injuries Warwickshire. Phase 4 Central Chiropractic Clinic.

Whiplash injuries Warwickshire.

Whiplash injuries. Severe whiplash injuries can happen during the phase 4 of the whiplash phenomenon. The seat belt stops the bodies inside the car from moving while the heads are moving freely forward thus creating violent forward motion and causing strain to the muscles and ligaments of the neck. This also causes tears to fibres in the spinal discs and jolts vertebrae out of their usual position. The spinal cord and nerves may get overstretched and irritated. The brain may hit the inside of the skull causing brain injury. By not wearing a seat belt and hitting the inside of the car, windscreen or steering wheel there is a greater chance of suffering  concussion or more severe brain injury.

Phase 3

During the third phase, the driver’s and passenger’s bodies are now falling back down into the seat while the heads and necks are still in forward acceleration as the car is slowing down. By decreasing the pressure on the brakes while in the first phase of the collision, the brakes will be reapplied during this phase. This reapplication of the brakes causes the car to slow down much quicker and makes it much more probable the increase in severity of the flexion injury to the neck. As the forward movement takes place, the seat belt tightens and takes up the slack.

Warwickshire Whiplash Treatment.

Whiplash Treatment. How the neck pain is treated depends on the diagnosis. Most patients are treated successfully with rest, medication, immobilization, physical therapy, exercise, activity modifications, or a combination of these methods.

For example, if pain is caused by inflammation as a result of over stretching the muscles and ligaments beyond their limits, your chiropractor may prescribe rest, neck collar and ice application for a specified period of time combined with treatment regime consisting of manipulation and soft tissue treatment.

Very few patients require surgery to relieve neck pain. For most patients, a combination of rest and chiropractic treatment will relieve neck pain. Surgery may be necessary to reduce pressure on the spinal cord or a nerve root when pain is caused by a herniated disk or bony narrowing of the spinal canal. Surgery may also be required following an injury to stabilize the neck and minimize the possibility of paralysis, such as when a fracture results in instability of neck structures.

Whiplash Treatment  Warwickshire.

Whiplash treatment. Neck pain is a very common problem to be treated and diagnosed among Chiropractors. It varies immensely from slightly annoying stiffness and pain to excruciating pain that is debilitating. Your neck (cervical spine) has a specific curvature. When the joints of cervical spine are misaligned, damaged or injured it can cause severe neck pain.

It is important that you keep your neck muscles strong and in good condition, as they have to support your head, which is balanced on the top of your spinal column. All of the different parts play an important role in maintaining a healthy neck. Common neck problems involve many different parts: the discs can wear down over time and can rupture causing compression of the adjacent nerves; muscles can be overused, strained , pulled or even torn; nerves can be pinched or damaged by injury, and ligaments can be injured and torn.

People who are experiencing neck pain should have chiropractic examination to diagnose the underlying causes and  outline possible treatments for the neck pain. To properly diagnose the problem, a Chiropractor will ask you for detailed information on your physical behavior, posture, working habits, sleeping habits, home and work environment. Generally they will want an x-ray and other diagnostic-type images to determine what is causing the problem. The more information and data the Chiropractor has, the better he/she will be able to devise an appropriate treatment plan.

Neck Shoulder Warwickshire.

Neck Shoulder.

It’s often difficult to decide whether the pain is arising from the neck or from the shoulder so your Chiropractor will make a detailed examination of both areas. Remember that other areas of the body can also contribute into the pain in this area. This is called  referred pain. Problems in the chest or abdomen can give Referred pain into the neck area or the shoulder area so you may also require an examination of both the chest and abdomen.

The nerves from the neck pass through the shoulder area into the arms. However nerve pain from the neck into the shoulder is not uncommon.

Neck and shoulder pain can be caused by various and serious underlying disease. This is not common, but if you develop sudden severe pain in this area then seeks medical attention as soon as possible.

It may become necessary for the Chiropractor to exclude other problems by taking or arranging for x-rays or  MRI scans.

An x-ray of the neck would show the wear and tear changes of cervical spondylosis. An x-ray of the shoulder possibly show calcium in the tendons or wear and tear in the shoulder joint.

West Midlands Neck Pain Injury Treatment Cold Laser Therapy, West Midlands Coventry.

Cervical Disc,  Injuries and treatment.

Cold laser therapy is used in treating this condition.

For many people a cervical disc injury is a progressive disease occurring over many years. The neck is constantly stressed, caused by motion of the cervical spine, and the awkward positions of the neck for prolonged periods of time, computers and work stations all take their toll on the cervical discs. The discs also wear out over time, loosing their resiliency, The Nucleus loses its resiliency and the annulus fibrosus weakens, at this point they bulge, and may tear. A tear in the annulus, may become large enough, for the nusleus pulposus, to leak out. This is called a disc herniation.

Neck Pain and Symptoms.

Neck Pain. When pain or abnormal sensations are felt in one arm, they are due to compression of a cervical root and felt in the area of the cervical root.

The C4 root takes nerves to the shoulder,

The C5 root takes nerves to the arm,

The C6 root takes nerves to the radial side of the forearm,

The C7 root takes care of the arm and forearm,

And the C8 and the T1 root take care of the hand.

There are two kinds of symptoms which may occur, first, the loss of feeling in the arm/arms, also new sensations such as pins and needles, and tingling, hot or cold sensations in the arm/arms.
