There are many injuries that can happen to the neck- holding up the head it is under an immense pressure load every day, and any aches, pains and injuries to the neck need to be taken seriously.

Below is some advice from chiropractors Coventry on two of the most frequent neck and spinal injuries, and information on how to recognise the warning signs.

  • Spinal Column Injuries (Cervical Disc Injuries) can occur in any part of the spine; the most common is disc damage. A herniated disc or discs are easily the most problematic- these are commonly known as slipped discs, and are prone to trapping or pinching a nerve exiting the spine. The cervical spine (neck) is an area where this may well occur. Cervical disc injuries can lead to neck pain which radiates down one or both arms if a nerve becomes trapped or pinched. This referred pain in the arm or arms, coupled with weakness or numbness, is considered more serious than the neck pain itself.
  • Spinal canal stenosis is a narrowing of the spinal canal that can eventually become a spinal cord injury when a major neck injury occurs (such as a fracture).
