Trapped-Pinched Nerve.

The term “trapped or pinched nerve” is commonly used to describe the pain associated with a variety of conditions from subluxations, to tunnel syndromes, and the referred pain from trigger points.

A trapped or pinched nerve is actually an irritated or inflamed nerve where the nerve itself is not actually trapped or pinched. It’s a fact in most cases, nerves become irritated and inflamed when the joints, muscles or bones of the spine are not in their original position and not moving properly, a condition which is called “subluxation”, and a chiropractor is a specialist in treating such a condition.

In many cases nerves that become ‘trapped or pinched’, as in Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, and Sciatica. In both cases, injury, spasm or inflammation of the surrounding muscles and connective tissue causes the nerve to become compressed, resulting in pain. This is a condition which is referred to as “tunnel syndromes”. The treatments of tunnel syndromes are more complex than treating a simple spinal subluxation, but they respond very well to chiropractic treatment.

Trigger points are tight “knots” formed when muscles are chronically overworked or injured, and are often experienced as a pinching, burning pain or occasionally as tingling sensation. Trigger points commonly cause pain that radiates to other parts of the body, which is known as referred pain. The treatment of trigger points usually requires a combination of chiropractic treatment and deep tissue massage called ‘trigger point therapy’.
