According to a report on the BBC, England rugby star was forced to prematurely retire from the game on the advice of experts and a chiropractor. Thompson, 28, retired in 2007 after a serious back injury threatened not only his career but also his life.

Despite retiring due to injury and numerous trips to a chiropractor, Northants rugby hero, Steve Thompson, hopes to transfer his talents into coaching the game of rugby instead of playing it. According to the report on the BBC, Thompson hopes to move into a coaching role with his club, Northampton RFC. The rugby star does admit that he will miss playing the game he loves competitively but hopes he can use his knowledge of the game to nurture new talents into the game. Speaking to the BBC, the England rugby star stated, “I'll miss the game. I'll miss the journeys away with the lads and the adrenalin, the fear, the togetherness and the achievement. I felt as if I'd emerged from a serious car accident alive, rather than thinking that something I dearly loved had been taken away from me.”

The injury suffered by England World Cup winner, Steve Thompson, was extremely severe in nature and could have been considerably worse in the grand scheme of things. The Northampton hooker received massive back trauma playing for his club against Biarritz and it soon became clear after visits to a specialist and chiropractor, Northants rugby legend, Thompson, would have to retire. Speaking to the BBC, the rugby star stated, “My disc was squashing my spine and was told I was very lucky to still be walking.” Upon hearing this news, Thompson visited a chiropractor in Northants, “He told me I needed an operation to remove the disc because if I knocked it even during a mundane activity around the house it could kill me.”
