Carpal Tunnel Therapy West Midlands
Carpal Tunnel Syndrome - What is it?
Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is a condition in which the median nerve becomes irritated and swells. Symptoms include some abnormal sensations such as tingling or numbness in the thumb, index and middle fingers on the palm side as well as pains at night, weakness in gripping and other clumsy movements.
The Carpal:
The Carpal is across the back of the wrist. Eight small irregular bones (or carpals) are aligned in 2 rows forming a letter "C." There is a tough ligament attaching across the inner side of the wrist. this forms the carpal tunnel.
The Tunnel:
A Tunnel is an opening in which something passes through. Nine tendons of the muscles of the forearm that move the fingers along with the soft median nerve pass through this narrow tunnel. This tunnel is about the size of your little finger.
Causes of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome?
Carpal Syndrome can be caused by eating habits, smoking, drinking alcohol, stress, playing instruments, repetitive motion (perhaps related to sports) and even Sleeping in certain positions and pregnancyhas been known to bring on Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.
